    VANCLEEF, Richard N d at the res of J S MC LUEN in GC 30 Jan 1783 at age 77 yrs. He was b in OH 11 May 1816. At an early age he moved with his parents to IN where he grew to manhood. When he was 14 yrs old, his father d leaving him the soul support of the family. He was m to Susana CONLEY, who d in March 1883. They had 8 ch - 4 of whom survive him - R G & W M VANCLEEF of Seneca KS, Joseph VANCLEEF & Mrs. JS MC Luen of this place. In 1849, they came to IA settling in Benton Co & soon after the war he came to Guthrie Co. Burial was beside his wife in the old city cem. [which is Valley Twp.]

    Two of Jennie's brothers were:
    Rhesa G. Van Cleef, grocer, and an old pioneer of Iowa. He was born in Ohio, in 1817, and emigrated to Iowa in 1849. In 1884 he was a resident of Guthrie Center. His mother was Susana (Conley) Van Cleef and d. March 27, 1883. Rhesa was born in Boone county, IN, on January 17, 1842 and was the second son of his family. In 1869 he came to Guthrie county where he farmed until 1873; he then engaged in the grocery business. He married Barbara E. Jones, a native of Ohio.

    Another brother was
    William G. Van Cleef and he was born in Benton county, IA July 3, 1852. He first moved to Missouri for 1 1/2 years and then went to Panora, where he followed the business of photography and also worked one year at the barber business. In 1877 he moved to Guthrie Center. He married in Dallas county to Miss Florence Metcalf of IN.
