He was among a group of Alsatian colonists who arrived in Louisiana in the fall of 1759.^S1

   He was in St. John the Baptist Parish by March 1760, when he sold land to Antoine Leche. He drowned in the Mississippi in 1789, apparently on the way down to New Orleans, on 4 August (according to the inventory of his property or 8 August (according to his burial record.

   He appears on a list of militia of the Second German Coast in 1770 (as a fusilier, married, age 39 years, born in Alsace), and in a census of the Second Coast of the Germans in 1784.
