About Jean Dreshner

Jean Dreshner, daughter of Vincent Dreshner (1916-1971), spent much of her professional life working in the grocery industry. After starting as a Bakery Clerk for Hughes Family Markets, she worked her way up to Director when Hughes was acquired by Ralphs Grocery Company in 1998.
After working for Ralphs for a few years as Director of Home Meal Replacement, she joined Hows Markets (whose primary investor was Roger Hughes of Hughes Family Markets, and was in charge of Hows Service Deli/Bakery operations and also Hows Catering operations for many years, in the [then] four-store chain.
After Roger Hughes, ex-Chairman of Hughes Family Markets passed away in 2010 and his children decided to end their financial interest in Hows Markets, Jean became Vice President and part owner in Hows Markets, which eventually sold all but their most profitable store, located in Pasadena, California.

Jean was very active in many charitable organizations and philanthropic causes and also was very active and supportive of a local trade association, the Dairy/Deli/Bakery Council of Southern California (DDBC). For her leadership and support, she was awarded the DDBC's "Big Cheese" Award in August 1995, and also the "Retailer of the Year", by the DDBC in 1998. Jean married in 1973 in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Bob Hernandez, another successful grocery industry veteran who worked as a Meat Manager for Hughes Family Markets and later for Ralphs Grocery Company before recently retiring.

Jean Dreshner was known as an extremely hard and competent worker, who mentored many others during her career, was very well respected for her leadership in the grocery industry, and will be missed by many of the co-workers, collegues and friends that she made during her very successful career and life. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Jean Dreshner was held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth, California, where she was laid to rest, with many family members, co-workers and friends in attendance.
