As certified in a certificate of Baptism issued by St. John the Baptist Church in Edgard, Louisiana, Jean Baptiste Rodrigue "was born in St. John the Baptist Parish on the 3 day of October 1788." [5]

Transcription: "This is to certify that Jean Bte. Rodriguez, child of Jean Charles Rodriguez and Pelagie Elfer, born in this parish on the 3 day of October 1788, was Baptized on the 29 day of October 1788. According to the Rite of the Roman Catholic Church by the Rev. Marino. The sponsors being Maurice Elfer and Marie Josef Rodriguez as appears from the Baptismal Register of this church." A Certificate of Baptism obtained from St. John the Baptist Church in Edgard, Louisiana, which references Vol I, page 108B, certifies that Jean Bte. Rodriguez, child of Jean Charles Rodriguez and Pelagie Elfer, was born in St. John the Baptist Parish on the 3 day of October 1788. NOTE: The name Rodrigue has also been spelled as Rodriguez or Rodrigues.

Transcription: "This is to certify that Jean Bte. Rodriguez, child of Jean Charles Rodriguez and Pelagie Elfer, born in this parish on the 3 day of October 1788, was Baptized on the 29 day of October 1788. According to the Rite of the Roman Catholic Church by the Rev. Marino. The sponsors being Maurice Elfer and Marie Josef Rodriguez as appears from the Baptismal Register of this church." Jean-Baptiste is referenced as the son of Jean-Charles Rodrigue and Pelagie Helfer in at least two instances of Conrad's documentation, as follows:

Inventory of the community property of the late Jean-Charles Rodrigue and his wife, Pelagie Elfer, 1803

No. 23. 4-28-03. Jean-Charles Rodrigue died a few months before this date and Andry now orders an inventory and appraisal of the community property in order that there might be a settlement between Pelagie Elfer and her children, namely: Jean-Baptiste (12), Firmain (10), Geneau (8), Edouard (6), Norbert (4), Celeste, wife of Louis Picou, Emerante (11), and Delfine (1). Inventory and appraisal made by Andre Tregre and Antoine Vicner in the presence of the widow; Louis Picou; Pierre and Francois Rodrigue, brothers of Jean-Charles; Jean-Louis Laurent and Louis de Grandmont. First item appraised is a farm 3 arpents wide bounded above by the farm of George Schof and below by that of Pierre Rodrigue. Debts owed by the succession to: the estate of Jean-Baptiste Rodrigue, and Baptiste Grima (of New Orleans).[1] [2]

Jean Charles Rodrigue and Pelagie Elfer are listed as the parents of Jean Baptiste Rodrigue on a Certificate of Death, signed and sealed by St. John the Baptist Church, Edgard, Louisiana.

Transcription: "The records of this church certify that Jean Baptiste Rodrigues, widower of Catherine Tregre, son of Jean Charles Rodrigues and Pelagie Elfer, was buried September 19, 1842, in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, located in Edgard, La. Died on Sept. 18, 1842. About 50 years old." (list of witnesses) Signed and sealed.

Marriage, St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana, 1817

Jean Baptiste married Catherine Treague at St. John the Baptist Church in Edgard, Louisiana, on 13 May 1817, as evidenced by a Certificate of Marriage, referencing the church's Marriage Register, Vol III, page 65.[6]

Transcription: "This is to certify that Jean Bte. Rodriguez and Catherine Tregre were lawfully married on the 13 day of May 1817. According to the Rite of the Roman Catholic Church and the laws of the State of Louisiana. (list of witnesses and priest). As appears from the Marriage Register of this Church, Vol III, page 65." Death, St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana, 1842

As evidenced in the above-referenced Certificate of death, Jean Baptiste died on 18 September 1842 and was buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Edgard, Louisiana, on 19 September 1842.[7]
