Jannetta Moore Houston Gilmore's husband owned a large and valuable farm on James River, near Daggers Springs. At his death the farm reverted to his brothers, leaving her in "very reduced circumstances". Her own father's will provided that Rural Valley should always be a refuge for any one of his children who might come to want. Currently (1881) living at Rural Valley with the widowed family of her brother John D. Houston. Rev. S. R. Houston 1860 Census, living with John D. Houston & his children 1880 Census confirms, living with John D. Houston and Elizabeth Steele Houston
