Jane Ann Murphy, daughter of William C. and Jane Murphy, was born in July 1836 in Pennsylvania. On the 1840 census in the 4th ward, Southwark, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, the household of William C. Murphy contained a female, age 0 to 5, presumed to be his daughter Jane. Jane appeared on the census of 1850 in the household of her parents in the South ward of Camden, New Jersey. She married Samuel D. Daniels, son of Joshua and Ann Daniels, on 23 February 1857 at the 4th Street home of Reverend Michael D. Kurtz. The marriage was recorded at the Wharton Street Methodist Episcopal Church.
The family lived for a short time in Camden, New Jersey, before returning to Philadelphia. Jane and Samuel appeared on the census of 1880 with their children George, Robert, Samuel, Louisa, Sarah, Jennie and John 1206 Moore Street, Philadelphia. Jane and Samuel appeared on the census of 1900 with their children George and Martha 2435 Iseminger Street, Philadelphia. Samuel had apparently retired, as no occupation was given on the census. Jane's husband, Samuel D. Daniels, died on 1 August 1900 in Philadelphia. Jane was in very delicate health and was not able to work. She filed for a widow's pension and apparently received eight dollars a month.
Jane (Murphy) Daniels died on 25 November 1900 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at age 64.15 An obituary for Jane was published on 28 November 1900 The Philadelphia Inquirer:
'DANIELS – On November 25, 1900, Jane H., widow of Samuel D. Daniels, aged 64 years. Funeral on Thursday afternoon at 1.30 o’clock, at her late residence, 2434 South Iseminger street, Thirteenth and Ritner streets. Interment private at Evergreen Cemetery.'
She was buried on 29 November 1900 at Evergreen Cemetery in Camden, New Jersey.

1850 U.S. census, New Jersey, South Ward, Camden Co., pg. 104, dwelling 532, family 560, William C. Murphy, enumerated 12 Oct 1850, but the inclusion of daughter Ann, who died in 23 July 1850, indicates that the family responded based on the official census date of 1 Jun 1850.
