Jane Cooper was born in 1870 at South Hylton in the parish of Ford, County Durham. She was the second of three daughters of Isabella Cooper, formerly Thompson, and her husband Joseph Cooper, a shipwright. Jane appears in the 1871 census living with her parents at South Hylton. Some time between 1871 and 1875 the family left South Hylton and moved a few miles north to the town of Hebburn. Jane appears in the 1881 and 1891 censuses living with her parents and siblings at Hebburn. In 1891 she was working as a dressmaker's assistant.

Jane has yet to be researched after 1891.
