James Southerton (16 November 1827 – 16 June 1880) was a professional cricketer who played first-class cricket between 1854 and 1879. After a slow start, he became, along with Alfred Shaw the greatest slow bowler of the 1870s. He played in the first Test match and remains the oldest player to make their debut in Test cricket. Played Cricket for England - was the 5th oldest ever to play and was playing when he was 49, not long before he died! He was the oldest debutante in Test Cricket and was the first test match cricketer to die.
