James Patterson's will-- To wife, Deborah; sons, James, William, John, Samuel; to granddaughters, Deborah and Jane; a granddaughter, Deborah Wynes; to grandsons, James Craige, Patterson Craige, James Synes (Wymes); daughter, Jane, deceased, to her children; division to "Deborah Patterson any my nine children, or their lawful heirs, Martha Beard, Wm. Patterson, James Patterson, Sarah Craige, Deborah Wilson, the children of Jane Syms (?) (Wynn?), John Patterson, Samuel Patterson, Nancy McCullough. Executors, sons James, John,Samuel. Teste: Jo. Williams, James and Samuel Patterson, John Craig. Proved, 27th february, 1815. James and John qualify.

James Patterson mentioned, in addition to wife Deborah, sons James, William, John and Samuel Patterson, granddaughters Deborah and Jane, granddaughter Deborah Wynes, grandsons James Craige, Patterson Craige, James Wynes, and daughter Jane, deceased, and directed the balance of his estate be divided by Deborah Patterson and nine children: Martha Beard, William Patterson, James Patterson, Sarah Craige, Deborah Wilson, the children of Jane Wynes, John Patterson, Samuel Patterson, and Nancy McCullough. James Craig's will (Sr.) - - To sons, James and William, lands on Middle River; also tract adjoining James Crawford, John Craig and Henderson's land; to son, George Craig, home tract and that purchased of Jno. Davison, and all lands on east side of South River; to daughter Sarah Ely, or Sarah Throp; to son, Samuel; frees slaves; to son, James' daughter, Mary; to each grandson named for testator, viz: James Craig's son, James; William Craig's son, James; Samuel Craig's son, James(if he have one); James Ely's son, James; James Anderson's son, James; to heirs of daughter, Mary Cirig, deceased; to daughter Agnes Anderson, and her husband James Anderson. Executors, James, George, William. Teste: John and Anne Craig, James Patterson. Proved, 15th February, 1791, by John Craig and Patterson. James and George Craig qualify, leave reserved for other executor to qualify.

Notes

John Craig, named eldest son and co-executor of his father's 1807 will, probably married Sarah “Sally” Patterson, daughter of James and Deborah (Givens) Patterson, on 24 June 1795 in Augusta Co.[133] She was born ca. 1774 in Augusta County. The will of James Patterson, dated 16 Feb. 1815, mentioned his wife Deborah, and a daughter Sarah Craige, among others.
