James Meakins was born on 7th June 1766 and baptised the following month at Woburn in Bedfordshire. He was the son of Ann Meakins, formerly Wilson, and her husband John Meakins. On 26th July 1790, aged 24, James married Elizabeth Fensom at Aspley Guise, just north of Woburn.

James and Elizabeth went on to have eight children at Aspley Guise between 1791 and 1806, although their eldest son died when only about eighteen months old. Back in Woburn, James’s mother died in 1793.

James has yet to be traced after the baptism of his youngest daughter in 1806.
