    James S. McLuen of the firm of McLuen & Bellows, blacksmiths and dealers in agricultural implements, is from Noble County, Ohio, and was born June 28, 1854. When James was four years of age his parents came to this county, locating in what is now Valley township. Until 1872 he did farm work when he began learning the plasterers' trade, which he followed during the summers for five years. He has worked at the present business since 1874. He was married November 18, 1877, to Jennie Van Cleef, of Benton County, Iowa.

    McLuen, James Samuel s/o James & Bedalia MC Luen b in Noble Co OH 24 Aug 1850 d at his home in GC 30 Mar 1933 age 82y 7m 6d. Came with his parents in the early 50s to settle on a farm east of GC. He was the 11th ch in a fam of 14 - all deceased, except 1 sis, Mrs Alice STOVER of GC. As a young man he & his bro Richard were in the implement & blacksmith bus. Late yrs in real estate loan & insurance bus. Postmaster at GC for a number of yrs. 1878 he m Jennie VAN CLEEF - 2 ch: Minnie Bird who d 1882 & Powd of Tulsa OK. Survivors, wife, son & granddau Cozette MC LUEN of DM. Funeral services at Christian Ch, interment at Valley cem.
