The I.G.I does not give BDM details for James and Mary, entries are drawn from family members at a McCullough reunion held in Warrnambool, 1992. The marriage record of their Daughter Margaret Stevenson McCullough, who married James Jellie in 1818 at the Killinchy Presbyterian Church, Co. Down, shows under "Fathers Name", Mrs. McCullough of Tullynagee. Therefore we can assume James died prior to her wedding. Further to this the "Index to Diocesen Wills to 1858" shows the following entry: " Will of James McCullough of Tullynagee, Kilmood, Farmer, Probate in 1815." [ Ref. 103a.] Thus confirming his death abt. 1815. Family history states James was a member of the Gordon Yeomanry with the rank of Lieutenant, his son Thomas was also a member of the Gordon Yeomanry with the rank of Captain. [ Ref. transcript of the obituary in the "Warrnambool Standard" newspaper of his son James McCullough 1820-1910. Quote " His father Captian Thomas McCullough, was an officer in the Gordon Yeomanry, and took part in much active service for the Empire"] The following references were also found: "Voters Roll Deputy Court Cheque Book, Co. Down, c.1789, Tullynagee, McCullough Jas. 10 Pounds, Notes: W. Adair., McCullough Jas. 23 October 1783." [Ref. 103a.] "Votors Roll Deputy Court Cheque Book C. 1789, for all of Down, James McCullough of Tullynagee, with a freehold, worth of 10 pounds." [Ref. 103a.] The first entry appears to show payment for the freehold to W.Adair and the second shows him as the registered owner of the Freehold and thus entitled him to vote. At this time only Protestants with a freehold worth at least 40 Shillings [20 Shillings to the Pound] per year had a vote. An entry in the "Freehold Register for County Down" for 1777 and 1780-85 shows "McCullough James of Tullynagee, freehold lying at "--?--" [illegable writting] at sessions held 23 Oct. 1783" It is interesting to note that in the "Freehold Register for County Down", as above, an entry shows "Moorhead David of Drumrea, his free hold lying at Tullynagee, at sessions held 7 Oct 1783" [This James' grandson James McCullough 1820-1910, son of Thomas, married Elinor Moorhead, daughter of David Moorhead 1788-1857 of Tullynagee] James' Daughters Mary 1782-1882 [unmarried] and Margaret Stevenson 1789-1870, with her Husband James Jellie, emigrated to Victoria, Australia, in 1852 and 1841 respectively.
