Advisory on James McCorkle, Jr.

Some researchers (but with few specific sources) claim that James McCorkle's wife was Elizabeth Rhea, daughter of William Rhea and Elizabeth.

Other sources claim that the wife of James McCorkle was Jean Crockett, daughter of Robert Crockett and Margaret Davis, but it appears that Jean Crockett married a William Thompson. based upon the following record in Augusta County, VA:

  • August 1767 - William Thompson and JEAN his wife to John CROCKETT, part of land formerly surveyed for Robert Crockett, deceased. Delivered to James, Oct. 1773.

It is clear that James McCorkle's family was close to the Crockett family, but the exact relationship is uncertain:

May 28, 1751 - Archibald Crockett chose Robert Bratton and James McCorkle guardians.

Also, James McCorkle was a witness to the will of Robert Crockett, father of Jean Crockett in 1747.

Thought to be a son of James McCorkle of his brother William McCorkle.
