U.S. 1850 Census
in the 1850 census, William M. and Sarah Lorene Walker Mayfield reside iaan Fayette County, Illinois. James Emsey and Wife Nancy Mayfield ages 70 and 68 livea in the adjoining household. James was born in Tennessee and Nancy in Virginia. Two households from James and Nancy Mayfield we find James Mayfield (age 23) with his wife, Emily and a son Syrufus age one It is proven that William and the younger James were brothers and Migrated to Barton Co. Missouri at or about the same time. According to the Census he would have been born in 1780 according to his tombstone he was born in 1776. see note in his wife Nancy
Mira Mayfield married Andrew Walker , John Mayfield married Elizabeth Jane Bradley, Winnie Mayfield married John Walker, Janette Mayfield married Miles Walker, James Mayfield married Emily E. Walker, William M Mayfield married Sarah Lorene Walker..also possibly two other brothers and maybe another sister...

James Emsley Mayfield served as the family lawyer and it could be that his father Samuel was a brother to the above mentioned elder James.....this is conjecture...no proof as yet. According to Glenn Mayfield
John Mayfield married Elizabeth Jane Bradley, their Granddaughter (Jackson, John,) was named Elizabeth Jane Mayfield and she married William Johnston Bradley( they were my Grandparents) Donald Lloyd Bradley
