Research notes

Believed to have been in PA by 1725, in N.C./S.C. by 1755.

One version of family members is that James was most likely of Scottish orgin, coming to Ireland with the plantation of Ireland around the 1600's and that he immigrated to Baltimore in 1710.

Some decendants of John (the Taylor) Love, son of James list a birth date of 1688 for James (the weaver).

James Love, weaver from PA, wife Martha, per 1760 S.C. will distributing 3500 acres, came, by 1737 with children "County Antrim, No. Ireland, to southern PA. No proof of James in either area, but likely lived in Straban, township, now Adams County, formed in 1800 from York County, split 1749 of Lancaster in 1729 from Chester, one of three original counties where brother Robert wed in 1738, and Alexander in 1743.

James and Robert were in present Chester County, S.C. by 1751, and Alexander & William, taxables showing in Straban in 1762, but not in 1765, were in adjoining "York Co. S.C. after 1761 & before 1771" per Passmore.

In the south they may have settled first near the Waxhaws, now Lancaster Co., S.C. as deed by James II names "old Love place" therein.

Historian McCrady says "Scotch-Irish Presbyterians ....Loves...spread from Waxhaws by 1768 over the New Acquistion" present Chester, York, etc., acquired from N.C. by royal resurvey.

Noted Presbyterian Missionary McAden, in diary, stayed with James Love on Broad River in 1755 and Gov. Tryon's party in 1767 crossed Broadat Love's Ford near mouth of Turkey Creek on which Benjamin Love [1723-1795] also had early grants. Latter with Robert of 1779 S.C. will, but both said from Lunenburg, VA., witnessed 1753 Anson Co., N.C. will of James I (the weaver's) eldest of four sons.

Before 1775, James & wife Martha moved from PA. to N.C., & resided at Love's Ford on the Broad River in then Craven County., N.C. Living in Chester County (now Columbia, S.C.) 1760 will mentions "3 youngest children" & in addition, William Love had a grant of 800 acres of land in what was then Anson County, N.C., Now Chester County, S.C. as of September 3, 1753 & his brother James was living on the Broad River in 1755.

Vol I #2 Love Family Qrtly -- Dec. 1953\ Jan 1954 "William Love died 1753 -- son of James Love, weaver, Love's Ford on Broad River (Craven Co. now Chester Co.) left possessions to aged father James I (800 acres land on River).

Vol II #3, April 1955 -- Love Family Qtrly # 421361 -- James Love, Sr., York County, PA. to Chester County, S.C. by 1753, "proved" by Katie Love (Mrs. J.B. Bradley) Clarksdale, MS & James Love, Jr. (1763-1807), also of Chester, by Anna Grace Love, Children of The Revolution, Columbus, MS.
