The Levesque family arrived in Melbourne aboard the Kildare on the 22nd December 1884. The family set sail from London on October 22nd 1884 including three of Mary Ann's [nee Humby] sisters. The ship called into Tasmania on the 15th of December to unload passenger and cargo. This was when Mary Ann's sister Maria Terrey Humby and her husband Thomas Wiseman departed to make a new life in Tasmania and on the 20th they left Hobart after reloading and arrived in Melbourne on the 22nd December. Later on one of Maria and Thomas's sons came to live with the Levesque family in Melbourne when both of them died in Tasmania and he stayed with them until he married in New Zealand.

Owned and ran a sawmill for some years in Birkdale on the North Shore, Auckland. Also had a huge strawberry patch and orchard employing the family and others. He started a canning business in 1901 and sent the produce to various places in New Zealand.

Untitled - Auckland Star, Volume XLIV, Issue 288, 3 December 1913, Page 4 Our Birkenhead correspondent writes as follows: —A telephone bureau has been installed at Mr. J. W. Levesque's residence, Birkdale, for the convenience of the settlers. Since the strawberry season commenced it has been in great request, and should be a boon to the district generally. The Birkdale Fruitgrowers' Association were the means of getting the telephone service, and every credit is due to that body for the enterprising way they are studying the general welfare of the district."
