Facts and Events
Source:Memorial of Josiah Kendall, one of the first settlers of Sterling, Mass., and of some of his ancestors, and of his descendants says that he believes there was a third marriage due to finding a stone in James' burying lot "in memory of Pierson, son of James and Lydia, who died Sept. 22, 1736, aged 9 years and 3 months". The first objection to this assertion is that according to Source:The Birth, marriage, and death register, church records and epitaphs of Lancaster, Massachusetts, 1643-1850, p. 418, the stone actually has the date "Sep'r ye 22 1756", which then is entirely consistent with the known marriage to Lydia Richardson and does not require postulating a third marriage. The second objection is that 1736, aged 9, would require a birth in 1727, when James was only 17, which is very unlikely. References
