2009-research of Dave Farmer: Ray James Farmer was born James Daniel Ray Farmer on 4 Dec 1919 in Washington, VA; birth record VA State File 145-19-064422, his mother Edie Proffet was 26 and his father Charley Farmer was 33 194x-1942 Ray worked at the Hercules Powder Plant at Radford, VA; he was exposed to some type of acid which affected his lungs; he was in a sanitorium for about 6 mos 1942 relocated to Northern VA and boarded with Lena Farmer and Ray Barr at which time he became employed by Arlington Co, VA as an apprentice surveyor; at this time there was confusion on his name and most knew him as Ray James Farmer Ray met Dorothy Walker in Sep or Oct 1943 on her father's farm in Woodburn, VA, when her father had employed Ray's father, Charlie Birchfield Farmer, to help harvest the hay; Charlie helped Ray and Dorothy meet; they became engaged at Christmas but Ray didn't give her a ring until Easter 1947 they lived on Park St, Vienna, VA; they rented two rooms from Mrs Arthur Smith; housing was in short supply; they lived there 11 mos; their next residence was on Shreve Rd, Falls Church, VA Ray's death certificate is filed under Ray James Farmer; cause of death cerebrovascular accident (stroke); funeral home Green Funeral Home, Herndon, VA; occupation surveyor Arlington, VA 1942-1974
