James Dugger was born ca 1747 or earlier based on his first public record (witnessing a deed) in 1761. He had to be at least 14 to do that.

On 7 Nov 1761 Nicholas Edmunds, John Dugger and James Dugger witnessed a deed from John Pilkinton to Thomas Cadet Young. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 7 page 47).

On 24 Nov 1764 James Dugger and John Dugger Jr witnessed a deed from Proctor to Fort. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 8 page 26).

In Feb 1765 court James Dugger and John Dugger Sr proved the deed from Proctor to Fort. (Brunswick Co., VA Order Book 8 page 8).

On 24 Sep 1768 John Dugger Jr, John Dugger Sr and James Dugger witnessed a deed from Andrews to Andrews. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 9 page 165).

In Jan 1769 court, it was ordered that James Dugger be paid 320 lbs of tobacco. (Brunswick Co., VA Order Book 11 page ?).

In Sep 1772 court Henry Rawlins was ordered to pay James Dugger 25 lbs of tobacco for him spending one day in court as a witness against Robert Trotter. (Brunswick Co., VA Order Book 12 page 111).

On 20 Jun 1783 James Dugger was again listed in the Bath Parish register for maintenance (taking care of) Mary Dugger (his grandmother) from 3 Jul 1782 until her death on 26 May 1783 and for burying her. James Dugger died between 20 Jun 1783 (when named in the Parish Register) and Aug 1783 for in court that month he was listed as deceased. Sarah Dugger (his widow), and John Dugger were granted administration of his estate. Joseph Browder and Ephraim Jackson were securities. (Brunswick Co., VA Order Book 8 page 241).

James Dugger, deceased, was listed on each of the 1787-1796 land tax lists for Brunswick Co., VA with 400 acres each time. In 1797 he was listed in the alterations section with 200 acres going to John Dugger Sr (his father), and 50 acres to Samson Dugger (his son) and 150 acres to Wright Griffin (relationship unknown).

When James’ father John Dugger Sr made his Will in 6 Apr 1802 he mentioned the heirs of James Dugger but didn’t name them. (Brunswick Co., VA Will Book 6 page 467).
