• Vol. 1 - page 359 Judgements June 1769 (E) James Dever and Elizabeth his wife vs. Daviel Henderson and Elizabeth his wife.

• Pg. 191. Cutler and wife vs. Dever O.S. 247; N.S. 87-Bill 1812. James E. Dever died owning a Title bond from his Hugh and John Devers (brothers). Title bond dated 28 Mar 1789 for 1,005 acres in Harrison co., Va. on Middlefork of Hughes River, Including Richards Camp and Patent to Hugh and John 20 Oct 1786. (John and Hugh lived in Rockingham Co., VA)

• Vol. 2 - Cutler and wife vs. Dever--O. S. 247; N. S. 87--Bill, 1812. Complainants are Andrew Cutler and Nancy, his wife, the daughter of James Dever, who died intestate, leaving oratrix Nancy, since married to Andrew; Margaret Dever married to James Bowyer--his only heirs. Previous to his death his brothers, Hugh and John Devers, made him a title bond dated 28th March, 1789, for 1,005 acres in Harrison County on middle fork of Hughes's River, including Richards's Camp, and patent to Hugh and John 20th October, 1786. James left widow Elizabeth, yet alive. Title bond by Hugh and John of Rockingham as above.

Information on James Dever

(notes of Charles V. DeVier - Jan 1995) The brick home of James E. Devier is still standing , in very good shape, at the intersection of roads 727 and 613 just 1/8 mile south of the town of Spring Creek, Virginia. ( near Bridgewater). It was built about 1830.

Kathyanne said that there used to be a grave site just south of the James E. Devier home . After she purchased the house in approx. 1990, she could not find the graves and was told they had been moved to the Mossy Creek Presbyterian Church cemetery. I went to the cemetery and sure enough, found grave stones of James H. Devier ,(not the James E. that I had expected.) his wife, a daughter and a son.

(from Hist. of Rockingham co., Va by Wayland - 1912) page 449; James owned 1283 acres in militia district # 5 of Rockingham co., Va in 1789 (listed under the James Dever Land Company) according to the county clerk's office as listed by Ralph Loftus, Commissioner. page 217 - James Devier was appointed overseer to open road from Harrisonburg "To Where the sd. Road Will fall Into the path Crossing the big Hill and That all Tithables within three miles on each side Work thereon"... (I assume this the correct James Devier- the other James is too old)
