Jim was asst. postmaster & postmaster for 35 years, first appointed postmaster of Plano, Texas on May 6, 1896. He married Martha G. (Mattie) Houghlet, and they had one son, James Jasper Crow when Jim was 54 years old. They bought a lot in Plano on the east side of Main Street, May 30, 1902 (Vol 115, p261.) They adopted a nephew, Malcolm Crow. Jim died in 1920 at home, at the age of 74. He must've been well liked as the businesses of Plano closed during his funeral. The land was sold in 1921 by widow Mattie G. and son James Jasper (Vol. 233, p350.) There was no probate.
