Kevan B. Hansen, A. B. wrote an article that was published in Ancestry Magazine Sept/Oct 1994 issue. The name of the article was X Marks the Man. This article sets forth the research done by Kevan on James Crow and James' father, John Crow. This research established that James Crow, born in 1713, was born in St. George's Maryland and that his father was John Crow, Born in St. George's, Md.

Baltimore land records for 1725 show that John Melchior gave James a mare. He stated that James Crow was the son & heir of John Crow.

       In the name of God Amen. I James Crow of the county of Chatham,in North             Carolina being infirm body but of sound mind and memory, thanks to                     Almighty God for the same,and calling to mind the mortality of my body and          knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die make and ordain this                to be   my last will and Testament in manner and form following, First and             principally I recommend immortal soul into the hands of Almighty God that            gave it hoping through the merits of my Blessed Redeemer to receive life             everlasting and as to my wordly Estate where with it hath been pleased God          to bless me I give and dispose of it as follows-- First my will is that all my             just debts be Regularly Discharged:

Item, I give to my belovod son John Crow ten shillings to him and his heirs and assigns forever-- Item, Igive to my beloved son James Crow ten shillings to him and his heirs and assigns forever Item, I give to my beloved son Stephen Crow ten shillings to him and his heirs and assigns forever Item, I give to my beloved son Reubin Crow ten shillings to him and his heirs and assigns forever Item, I give to my beloved son Isaac Crow ten shillings to him and his heirs and assigns forever Item, I give to my beloved son Abel Crow ten shillings to him and his heirs and assigns forever Item, I give to my beloved son William Crow ten shillings to him and his heirs and assigns forever Item, I give to my beloved daughter Hannah Bron ten shillings to her ,her heirs and assigns forever Item, I give to my beloved daughter Abba Riller Pilkington ten shillings to her,her heirs and assigns forever Item, I give to my grandson Levy Crow ten shillings to him his heirs and assigns forever Item, I give to my granddaughter Anna Crow, ten shillings to her, her heirs,and assigns forever., Item, I give to my two sons Reubin Crow and Isaac Crow all the land belong to the plantation whereon I now live to be divided between them according to the line of agreement as it now stands,the upper part to Reubin and the lower part to Isaac,them ,their heirs,and assigns forever

Item, I give to my son Reubin Crow a tract of land lying on Collins Mountain to               him, his heirs and assigns forever.   And all the residue and remainder of             my Estate of what kind or quality whatsoever  it may consist my will is that           it be sold and equally divided between the above named Persons,
         only with the Reserve that Abba Riller Pilkington have two shares,and the             rest all an equal share, to them,their heirs and assigns forever
         Lastly I constitute and appoint my two sons John Crow and Stephen                       Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament in witness wherof I have           hereunto Set my hand and Seal this sixteenth
         day  of July one thousand seven hundred and ninety two

        2)  James Crow's baptismal record is found in the St.Georg parish, but it               doesn't include the name of his father. Baltimore Co. land records for               1725 show that John Beichior gave James a mare .He stated that James              Crow was the son and heir of John Crow

        6) Research notes of N. Dale Morgan, The DAR Patriot Index and SAR                       application of James Crow --the validity of these two items was                         questioned by N. Dale Morgan due to the fact that the James Crow died
           in 1794 and the statements taken from James Crow of Washington Co.,                Va., who fought at this battle occured in 1813. The James Crow of                           Washington Co.,Maryland died in 1819 so this James Crow has
          been wrongly credited with fighting at Kings Mountain Battle. See page                  283 and 584, Kings Mountain and It's heroes,by Lyman C. Draper --pub.                1881, reprint 1976 by Gen. Pub. Co.,in Baltimore Co.,MD.
