James Caudy built the brick house now (1937) owned by Amos L PUGH, before the day of the Turnpike; later CHAMBERLAINS owned the building and kept a store in it where the then young medical student, J. J. T. OFFUTT studied before going to medical college. He did this as a side-line while he earned his living as clerk in the store. The Dr. later lived on the site of the Dr J S OFFUTT property where Dr HENRY resides.

Dr J J T OFFUTT, father of Dr J S OFFUTT, was the son of Nathaniel OFFUTT, II who came to Hampshire from Jefferson county, West Virginia. He, Nathaniel, was nephew of Soloman OFFUTT on whose will he appears as witness. See Book One. Dr. J J T OFFUTT born Aug 4, 1826, died about 1886.

The above Dr. J S OFFUTT property 1945, is the home of John WARD, nephew of the late Dr. OFFUTT.

Maude PUGH is apparently mistaken in her Volume I (page 246) in which she says that James Caudy (son of David and Martha Hiett Caudy), married Elizabeth McPHERSON, daughter of William McPHERSON. See note for William McPHERSON RIN-223.
