    Death before 23 Aug 1807 James died before 23 Aug 1807
    Probate Recd 20 Jul 1824 William Steel served as administrator of James Caldwell's estate [they were brothers-in-law]. A settlement record filed in July 1824 referenced a sale bill dated Aug. 23, 1807, suggesting James died earlier that summer. Various notes due the estate were also listed, including one to Elizabeth Caldwell and David Steel. Robert Caldwell and Robert Edmondson, Robert E. Lowrey and D. Steel, David Lowrey, Roger Keys and William E. Buchanan all held notes due the estate.
    20 Jul 1824 When William Steel submitted the settlement record he also filed a bond to become guardian of John Caldwell, James Caldwell's son.
