I note that James K Ames lived with Patience his wife near Dover, Maine. For a map of this whole area, see 'map' under pictures for JKA. He was a tanner, as reported in his Obituary in Washington Co, MI. He was also US Postmaster in 1862 in South Dover.

Bradford, ME was first settled 1803-05 by James White and Robert Marshall of Thomaston. It became a plantation in 1820 and a town in 1831. By themid-1850s its population had peaked at 1,500, which is about 300 more people than it has today.
