Will of James Alcorn, written 9 June 1761; proven 5 August 1761.
In the Name of God Amen, I James Alcoran of the Township of Middleton in the County of Cumberland and province of Pennsylvania being sick and in a weak condition but through the blessing of God of perfect and sound disposing mind and memory Do on this ninth day of June in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred and sixty one make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following. Viz.
Imprimis I allow and order that all my just debts be paid by my exor's herein after named and as to the residue I hereby give devise and bequeath to my son James Alcoran ____ plantation and tract of land lying and being in Canogothugue settlement adjoining the land of Samuel March and on - south side and by patent lands ____ the ___ mark being the same where I took up and granted to me by Warrant from the Honorable _______
Together with all my right title and inheritance in the same ____ ____ him the said James Alcoran an his heirs and assigns for ever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my eldest daughter Katherine the wife of David Steele the sum of five shillings pennsylvania currency and no more.
Item. I give and bequeath to my second daughter Victoria and her husband William Rankin the sum of five shillings money as aforesaid and no more.
Item. I give and bequeath to my third daughter Sarah and her husband Hugh McCormick the sum of five shillings pennsylvania currency and no more.
Item I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary all the residue of my estate both real and personal including that part or mority of the whole tract on which I live thereon my house stands which said moiety of the whole tract some time since gave to my son in law Hugh McCormick but he having not complyed with the conditions mentioned in our agreement I give and devise the same to my wife Mary together with all my right and inheritance of in and the same where the said Mary her heirs and assigns forever ~ and further I constitute and appoint my dearly wife Mary and my only son James the executors of this my last will and Testament hereby Revoking and disannulling all & any manner of wills or writings importing the same allowing this and this only to be my last will and Testament In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the day and year above written, signed sealed published and declared as his last will and Testament in presence of us.
