JACOB THOMAS PEAK, JUNIOR was born and spent his early life in Meigs County, Tennessee. Jacob served as both Captain and Major under Generals Wool and Scott in collecting the Cherokee Indians for relocation to the Oklahoma Indian Territory. In 1836 Jacob paid personal property tax in Morgan County, Tennessee. Jacob settled in Ten Mile Valley, Meigs County before 1840. He had a ferry and trading post (Peak & Hornsby) at Pin Hook Landing on theTennessee River. He also had a farm near Watts Island. On March 24, 1851, Jacob Peak purchased 80 Acres in Montgomery County,Tennessee in a Federal Sale of land for $1.25 an acre. When the Civil War began Jacob was too old to serve but he did act as an enrolling officer for the Confederate Army. |
