1. JACOB McLAIN (1750-1835) married in 1771 Elizabeth Wilson, evidently the daughter of Thomas and Mary Wilson of Frederick Co MD. In the late 1770's, apparently, Jacob was living in Bedford Co PA on "Wooden Bridge Creek, a short distance above Woodcock's Mill." He was the nearest neighbor of Alexander "Double Alick" Alexander, who lived four miles away. In 1781 Jacob McClain served in Capt. Henry Rush's Company of Bedford Co militia. In 1793 one Jacob McClean of Dublin Township, Bedford County, applied for a tavern license. At that time he lived "at the foot of Sideling Hill on the State Road 23 miles from Bedford". The 1790 Bedford Co census shows the name "Bigard Head", who was probably Bigger Head, husband of Elizabeth (Wilson) McLain's sister Susannah. William Wilson (1755-1821), brother of Elizabeth and Susannah, was born in Frederick Co MD and reportedly came to Bedford Co in 1777, where he served in Capt. Charles Taggart's militia company. He died in Fairfield Co OH.
