Jacob Hostetter was born in 1690 near Lake Constance, Canton Zurich, Switzerland. He and his family immigrated about 1712 and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylavania. He was a farmer, minister and Bishop in the Mennonite Church. His fifth child was Abraham (1723-1796), Abraham Hostetter's fifth chld was also named Abraham (1766-1834). He moved to AdamsCounty, Pennsylvania. Abraham's second son was John Hostetter (1791-1866). He was a successful farmer and bishop and founded Hostetter's Mennnonite Church in Adams County. He also helped provide land for a public school there. His third child,Jacob K. Hostetter (1824-1898) was also a farmer and bishop at Hosttetter's Mennonite Church. Jacob K. Hostetter's tenth child was Samuel Elias Hostetter (1868-1949). Samuel Elias Hostetter had an adventurous youth, travelling from Pennsylvaniato Illinois, Colorado, and Washington to work as a farm hand. He heard about a land boom in Louisiana and moved there to began truck farming vegetables. His production methods were innonvative and efficient and became well-known to state politicians, which caused some resentment among his neighbors. In order to raise his family among other Mennonites, he left his successful farming operation to move to a new community in Denbigh, Virginia in 1915, were he continued farming and became a Deacon at Warwick River Mennonite Church. Samuel's tenth child was Ada Ruth Hostetter (1908-1988), born in Louisiana. She married Milford Hertzler in 1932. References:Hostetter, Oscar L. Among this group would be the Herr's, Kreider's and Funk's.
