- ↑ "A Pioneer Gone: Jacob D. Heller was born in Dauphine County, PA, November 20, 1801; he was the oldest of his father's family, and at the age of 8 his mother died. He was baptised in infancy, and at mature age was received into the full communion of the Reform church, by Rev. Isaac Gerhart, at Millerstown, PA, by confirmation and remained in communion until death. At the age of 24 he linked his life's fortunes with Miss Margaret Daniels in holy matrimony, in March, 1825, the bond enduring for 60 years and 9 months. Then for 13 years longer he remained in his childhood home as a tenant on rented lands. In 1838 he turned his face westward, and in May of that year settled upon his farm in Liberty township, where he resided up to his death. The woods yielded to the sturdy stroke of his ax, and where the prowling wolf and timid deer made their lair, has succeeded an unostentatious Christian home. He was for nearly 48 years a citizen of this township and county. To father Heller 13 children were born, 9 in PA and 4 in this county. For years father Heller suffered from that decay indicant to old age, and at last, on Sunday evening, the 13th inst., just as the evening shades had fallen he gently fell asleep in Jesus, at the ripe age of 84 years and 23 days. On the 16th inst., after suitable services by his pastor, we laid his mortal remains to rest in the Crall cemetery to sleep the years away in the hope of a blessed resurrection."
