Catherine Blankenbaker, shown elsewhere as 'Blankenship'); David Clark 1834-1913 KS (m. Antoinette Snow); Thomas Simpson 1835-? (m. Sarah Agnes Cass); Ira (died young); Mary L. 1839- (m1 John Rinker, m2 John H. Shankland); and John (died young). He and second wife Celia (Wakefield) Talbot had 4 children: Charles Albert 1848-1935; Harriet E.1850-1929 (m. Socrates Baugh); Sarah Frances 1852-1863; and Permelia Arabelle 1855- (m. William S.  "On December 29, 1877, Mr. Shankland was married in Dawson, Ill., to Mrs. Mary Constant Rinker, who was born September 25, 1839, the daughter of Jacob and Amelia (Crocker) Constant, the former a native of Montgomery County, Ky., and the latter of the State of Georgia. The father removed from Kentucky to Ohio, settling in Clermont County, and in 1826 removed to Sangamon County, where six children were born: Mrs. Shankland, David, James H., Thomas S., Ira and John. Mrs. Shankland also has three half brothers and sisters, the father having been again married after the mother's death in 1847.   "[Jacob Constant] ... was born about 1765, in Virginia. Eleanor Clinkenbeard was born about 1769, in Virginia, also. They were there married, and soon after moved on pack horses--that being the only way goods could be transported at that time through that mountainous country--to Fleming county, Ky. They had fourteen children in that county, and in 1814 moved to Clermont county, Ohio, where they had two children. The family moved to Sangamon county, Ill., arriving Oct. 26, 1826, in what is now Mechanicsburg township. Of their children... Jacob, born Jan. 7, 1805, in Fleming county, Kentucky, married June 4, 1829, in Sangamon county, to Permelia Crocker. They had six children, two of whom died young. The other four, James H. M., born March 4, 1830, married Catharine Blankenship, have four children. He was a soldier in a Sangamon county regiment. David C., born Jan. 28, 1833, married in Texas to Annetta Snow. They are teaching among the Indians. Thomas S., born July 2, 1835, married in Mt. Pulaski to Sarah Cass, daughter of Ninian Cass. Mary  L., born Sept 25, 1839, married John Rinker: had one child, Annetta S.  Mr. Rinker enlisted in 1861, in 30th Ill. Inf., and died near Vicksburg, in 1863. Mrs. Permelia Constant died Feb. 17, 1847, and Jacob Constant was married June 25, 1847, in St. Clair county, to Mrs.Celia Talbott, whose maiden name was Wakefield. They had four children. Charles A. married Sarah Horn, had one child, and live near Dawson. Harriet E. and Permelia O., Sarah  F. died at eleven years. Mrs. C. had two children by her first husband, Thomas and Mary E. Talbott. The latter died in her fourteenth year. Jacob Constant and his wife reside one and a half miles southwest of Dawson.  In the 1850 census for Sangamon Co., Illinois, Jacob Constant is a farmer, age 45 from Kentucky.  His [second] wife 'Cela'  is 35, born Illinois.  In the 1880 census for Dawson, Sangamon Co., Illinois, Jacob Constant is a farmer, age 75 from Kentucky (parents Virginia). His wife Cealia is 64, born Illinois (father Georgia, mother Illinois).  In the household are daughter 'Harriot', 28, born Illinois; son Albert, 32, farmer; daughter-in-law Sarah C., invalid, 27, born Kentucky (father Ohio, mother Kentucky); grandchildren Jacob M., 8, Jessie Luella, 5 -- both born Illinois, father Illinois, mother Kentucky -- and grandson James Harvey Constant, 17, born Illinois, parents Illinois.  There is also Marion Havener, age 13 from Illinois, 'work on farm', relationship 'other'. {p.394a}
