Jacob Chesnut was born in 1776 in Augusta County, Virginia. Moves to Green Co Tn.- Married Margaret Blake in 1797. In 1798 he Joined his brother William in Washington County Ky. In 1804 he, his father and brothers bought land in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. In 1818 he, his widowed mother, Patience, and brothers moved to Lawrence County, Indiana, leaving Abraham and family in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. In 1850 Jacob was 77 and living with his daughter, Margaret Bales, in Monroe Co In.

Information in "Chesnut Family Forefathers" by John B. Chwesnut Jr. states that 1820 census records indicate that Jacob had three sons and four daughters; however, Abraham is the only one that can be identified with certainity.
