    In 1833, he traveled down the Choctaw Trail with his family and cross the Red River. When he reached the site of Clarksville, James Clark prevailed upon him to stay on at the springs. Clark gave him a block of land and helped him build a house, even before building his own. This afterward became Charles De Morse's house and was still standing in 1937.
