Irma passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 10th, 2009 at her home in San Lorenzo at the age of 92. The cause of death was heart failure.
Irma was born to Anna and Nicholas Warcken on the family farm in Lamoure, ND on August 5th, 1916 and was the 2nd of 5 children. She served as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy from 1944-45, and married James Gaughan on March 23rd, 1945 in Hanford, CA. They settled in San Lorenzo, CA where they raised their 5 children.
In addition to being a homemaker, Irma was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, a founding member of St. Gerard's Womens Club, an elections supervisor, and a volunteer worker at numerous institutions including St. Rose Hospital and the San Lorenzo Library. She loved to read mysteries, play cards, shop at thrift stores and dine at the Hickory Pit with her goddaughter Carole. More than anything else, she loved to visit with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her son Stephen Gaughan and her husband James Gaughan.
She is survived by daughters Mary Gaughan of Kettle Falls, WA and Florence Luker and husband Ken of Eugene, OR, sons Michael Gaughan and wife Kandi of Pollock Pines, CA and Patrick Gaughan and husband Scott Burgess of San Lorenzo, CA, grandsons Ryan, Nathan, Matthew and Eli, granddaughters Dena and Sierra, great granddaughters Nicole, Lauren, Ariella and Anneliese, great grandson Brandon, and Goddaughters Phyllis Newton and Carole Kraftshick.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, July 18th, at St. John's Catholic Church,264 E. Lewelling Blvd. in San Lorenzo, with a reception to follow at the family home.
