Irene May Yearling was born on Christmas Day 1909 at Plymouth in Devon, daughter of Annie Yearling, formerly May, and her husband Thomas Gilbert Yearling, a plasterer and riveter. She appears in the 1911 census living with her parents and siblings.

Irene was married in 1936 to Bertram Parr. They appear to have had one daughter in 1946.

Irene died in 1994, aged 84. Bertram survived her by three years.
