Ingebrit was immigrating to America from Sogn og Fjorland, Norway via New York to to Cushing, WI. Ingebrit (eldest son) and his father, Herman, disembarked in Albany, New York. They were parched and went with a neighbor to search for water. When then did not return, Ann (wife and mother) sent the next two sons to look for them. All three men, Hermund (father), Ingebrit (son) and the third man were dead at the water hole (heat exhaustion or poisoning). Anna had to arrange and pay for 3 burials($28), board the train with the 7 other children and proceed to Prairie Du Chine and Lansing by train/boat. |
