"Hugh McCadden Torbett was born in 1841 to john O. and Evalyn Torbett while they were living in Rhea Co., TN. He is said to have manfactured wagon wheels out of Bois d'Arc wood, both in Tennessee and Wapanuka, Oklahoma, where he finally retired. Hugh was in the Arkansas Militia for awile, and joined the Confederate Army from Missouri. He married Sarah J. Wolf."

During his time with the Confederate Army he served under Gen Sparks Arkansas State troops, and when that unit was dissolved, he was attached to Gen. Howell's Battery in which he served to the end of the war, and was given an honorable Discharge.

When Hugh was 78 years old he was killed while walking along the railroad tracks. He was run over and instantly killed by backing coal cars.

According to a newspaper article about his death, he was survived by his wife and three children. His three children listed were; John Torbett of Wapanuka, Byron Torbett of Crowder, and Mrs Jarman of Roff.
