"Hugh McLaughlin was born in Coleraine, Northern Ireland [sic], and lived with an uncle, because his father died young. If the mother was living at the time is not sure. As a young man at the age of 16 he left for the United States with his brother William and could have arrived through Ellis Is land or Boston around 1911. He had a sister living in the USA, I was told [Sarah]. Then some time before 1915 he came to Canada and married Philomena McCorkell in 1918 and they bought a farm in Uptergrove, near Orillia, Ontario..."
