My Great Grandfather Hugh McGovern was born in County Cavan, Ireland. In all the searches done for the County of birth in Ireland and his date of arrival in America, the only written clue was his obituary and death certificate. I have searched many ship arrival manifests and had found some Hugh McGovern names in the correct years of immigration. However, it could not be proven that these names were any of my Hugh McGovern's I was researchiing. Again, it will be left to future family historians to confirm this date of arrival in American and the exact parish and township Hugh had left from in Ireland. I would like to give some proof of the birthplace of Hugh McGovern. The County of Cavan in Ireland is known as the home of the McGoverns. The name McGovern was MacGauren in the Celtic language. After my visit to Bawnboy, County of Cavan, Ireland I recieved this letter from a man nnamed Chris Whatever. He was researching and recording the names in the cemeteries of County Cavan. Hugh settled in Ohio for a few years before coming to Wisconsin according to his obituary. Two of his brothers, Thomas and John, were also in Ohio in the 1850s and their children were recorded as born in both Cinncinatti and Cedarville Ohio.
