'He married at Charlestown, Massachusetts, 7 October 1664, Hopestill Merrick [citing Vital Records of Charlestown 1:50], who was born there 20 (12) [Feb.] 1642/3, the daughter of John Merrick/Mirick, cooper, and his wife Hopestill [citing The Genealogies and Estates of Charlestown Mass. 1629-1818 2:676] .'

'Hopestill the daughtr of John Miricke & Judith his wife was born 20 (12.) 1642.'

The two (possibly not independent) transcriptions I have seen of this record both list the mother as Judith, yet other compilers do not comment on that fact, and list her as the child of Hopestill. Given the relatively small gap between her birth and that of her younger brother, whose mother is given as Hopestill in the Vital Records, I am assuming that 'Judith' is either an error in the original record, or a transcription error.

    'Hopestill, b. Feb. 20, 1642-3; m. Richard Rosmorgan, Oct. 7, 1664; d. Feb. 14, 1691.'

NOTE: The death date does not agree with other sources. It is probably confused with that of her sister-in-law Sarah (Orton) Mirick, who died 14 Feb 1690/1.
