TODO: Description: Born 10 Feb. 1866 Grant Co. Category: Birth Certificate Local: Oregon Archives Date: 29 Mar 2009 Status: Open Type: 0 Priority: 8 Repository:

Nora and Ora were 2nd cousins. Sons and Daughter of Oregon Pioneerrs application filled out by Gladys (Westfall) King, Mullen. She was born 10 Feb 1866 near Prairie City, Oregon.

1900 US census shows the birth year is 1869. This census showed that Nora had 7 children but only 5 survived.

Not sure which year is correct. Ellen B. also has 1866 as her birth year. I now have 2 sources for the 1866 birthyear. I am assuming that 1869 was incorrect. Per funeral notice she was shown at Zeller, Chapel of the Roses, Portland, OR.

She attended school in Clinton, MO. Her Uncle John D. Westfall kidnapped Nora True from her school in Clinton, MO. She also attended school in Salinda (?) Colo. to learn sewing and woman's arts. Notes from E. B. King Thibadeau. She was abt 48 when she moved to Portland OR.

She was Nora E. Newby when she married Ora in 1895.

She may have had children named William (see Newby) and Ardith also per notes from E. B. King Thibadeau.

On her death certificate her daughter Agnes listed her father as John True.

Transcription from a letter writte by Nora True from an email from Urv Banzer who has this letter: I was working in a private boarding house in Elko Nevada for $10.00 a month and sleeping on the kitchen floor when Charles Newby came to town. He said that a neighbor lady wanted me to come out to stay with her while her husband was gone, and of course, I was going. But my boss said you can't go running around the country with a young man, it isn't decent so he (Charles) said we can get married that day and left Elko the next morning for home. We lived on the South fork of the Humbolt River, 25 miles from Elko Nevada the nearest town. That is where my four children were born. She then listed the children and their birth dates and added that they left Nevada Dec. 1890. I believe that they were headed for Westfall Oregon.

(Research):On her notes she has what I believe to be locations of Arden during his short time on earth taken from cards to his grandmother. 1900 Nepesta Colo. 1902 Okely, ID 1904 Chehalis, WN 1908 Orilla WN 1910 Tenino, (the 1910 US Census proves this) 1911 Kelso, 1913 Holebraak, Ore Feb. 1913 Portland Address: C/O C. T. Co. Scappoose, Ore. From Gram's notes she had 1897 as Arden's birth year and July as the mo. he died. Note his DC listed his death at 1912 so the 1913 dates must have been 1912.

Possible places to find the family.

Sons and Daughters of Oregon Pioneerrs application filled out by Gladys (Westfall) King, Mullen. He came to Oregon in the 1850's from Virginia.
Note on the back say he was the first settler and father of the town that has his name (Westfall, OR). He left his native West Virginia, then to Clinton, Missouri. An 1850 census show him in Lucas Co. Iowa, wife Elizabeth, an infant daughter Mary Jane who was my maternal grandmother. Then on to E. Oregon sometime in the early 1850's. Levi and Jackson (his brother) are buried in the Westfall cemetery.
