1850 Census says age 6 (abt 1844), 1860 Census says age 16 (abt 1844), 1870 Census (name Thompson) in Scioto Co. Ohio says 26 (abt 1844), 1880 Census says age 39 (abt 1841), 1900 says Jan 1840. Hiram is on the 1890 Veteran Census living in Greenup County, and census taker notes say, "Measles, unable to support family." Invalid pension was filed Apr. 16, 1890 and Nancy filed for pension as a widow on February 14, 1910.

Enlisted as a Private on 10 September 1863. Enlisted in Company F, 14th Infantry Regiment Kentucky on 31 October 1863. Transfered on 15 January 1864 from company F to company D. Mustered out Company F, 14th Infantry Regiment Kentucky on 15 September 1865 in Louisville, Kentucky.
