Hiram, with his brothers William and George, enlisted with Company C, 33rd Illinois Infantry on Feb 18, 1864 and mustered out Nov. 24, 1865.

In the 1870 census for Topeka, ward 3, Shawnee Co., Kansas, Sam'l Marshall is 33 born Illinois, contractor; with Margaret 32 b. Illinois; Nora 9 b. Kansas, (Emma?) 7 KS, and (Edgell?) 5 (Wisconsin?). Hiram Grabendike [Margaret's brother] is 24 from Illinois, teamster, with [daughter] May 1 born Kansas in May. {p. 213}
 I believe his daughter May died young.
 In the 1880 census for Ottawa, Franklin Co., Kansas, he is listed as 'H. Grabendik', painter age 35 from Illinois (parents Illinois).  His [second?] wife Ida is 25 from Illinois.  The children are 'Zana', 4, born Illinois; and Clyde, 1, born Kansas -- both with parents born in Illinois.
 In the 1885 Kansas state census for Osage City, Osage Co., Kansas, John Wilson is 39, miner from Sweden; H. H. Grabendike is 39, painter from Illinois; I. C. is 30 IL; 'Zona' is 9 KS; and Clyde 6 KS.
 I believe he divorced Ida, as she is found in 1900 remarried, with their son Clyde.
 In 1895, Hiram H. Grabendike is listed as a 'clairvoyant healer' who resides at 1702 Champa in Denver, Colorado.  
 In the 1889 directory for Denver, H. H. Grabendike is listed at 'r. 52 Moffat and Kassler Blk.' In 1896 he is listed as 'medium and healer' at 1702 Champa. In the 1899 directory, Hiram H. Grabendike is listed as 'clairvoyant' 'r 1627 Stout'. In 1901, there are listings for Harry H. Grabendike 'wallpaper' 1957 Champa; and for Mrs. Ida M. Grabendike, 'rms' at 1853 California.  He is buried at Colorado State Veterans' Center Cemetry (aka Homelake Soldiers and Sailors Home) in Rio Grande County, Colorado.
