He resided on Concord Street in Andover for many year before moving to Wallaston.. For some years he was employed by the Pacific Mills in the machine shop. He held many patents for several inventions in connection with the machinist trade In addition to inventions dealing with the machinist trade, he had invented other items. Among them were the sliding shoe polish can, the cake pan with the sliding handle for easy removal and buckles for "overshoes." The family has in its possession a copy of a letter of proposition in regard to the above mentioned buckles to Mr. Mellen Bray, Esquire. Living in Quincy at 1900, 1910 (at 41 Middle Street) and 1920 census.

1898,1903,1904,1912,1914 & 1920 Quincy Directories lists him as a machinist, living at 47 Freeman. 1907 Braintree Directory shows him living at 314 Middle Street. 1929 Directory shows him living at 109 Oxenbridge Road with son Harold. 1930 Quincy Directory lists him as a foreman, living at 109 Oxenbridge Road with son Harold. 1934 Quincy Directory lists him as a foreman, living at 109 Oxenbridge Road.

This article in the Hingham Journal in November, 1904 is likely about him: "HE RETRACTED AND PAID: H. Wardwell of Wollaston was in the Hingham court October 28, charged with going in an auto Sunday at the rate of 18 miles an hour. He pleaded not guilty, conducted his own case, and told the court that his machine was not capable of going more than ten miles an hour. Officer Crehan told the court that he timed Mr. Wardwell over the measured course twice and his time was at the rate of 18 and 15 miles an hour. Mr. Wardwell was fined $10. He told the court that he would pay the fine, but the verdict was an unjust one. He was immediately given the opportunity to retract what he said to the court. He did and paid his fine."

"He died in Quincy Hospital in December of 1935, his wife having died the preceeding month. He is survived by two sons: Harold Wardwell of East Braintree and Herbert Wardwell of Wollaston; 1 daugther, Mrs. Hazel Mann of Wollaston; and three sisters Mrs. Emma Foss of Lynn, Mrs. Ella Jacques of Haverhill, and Mrs. Gertrude Lee of Concord; and several grandchildren."
