"Henry was born in Cumberland County, Virginia which became part of Powhattan County when it was reformed in 1777......Henry moved with his parents to Buckingham County, Virginia prior to the Revolutionary War..... Henry was on the Green County, Kentucky Census in 1800 along with his father, John, and brothers, Philip and John."
From "Winfrey Family", James Clifton Winfrey, pgs 307-308"Henry Winfrey moved with his parents to Buckingham County, Virginia prior to the Revolutionary War and then to Lincoln County, Kentucky about 1790. Henry was married in Lincoln County on 30 November 1794 to Sarah "Sally" Thomas, daughter of John and Ann Thomas.
Henry Winfrey was on the Green County, Kentucky census in 1800, along with his father John and brothers Philip and John. Philip was in the Revolutionary War as a substitute for his father John in 1780 and 1781 and applied for a pension in 1832, while living in Adair County, Kentucky. When Adair was organized in 1801, the Winfrey land became part of it.
It is not known when or where Henry Winfrey was ordained, but he was granted a license to solemnize the Rites of Matrimony in Adair County on 23 August 1802, thereby becoming the first minister to obtain a license in that county.
Henry and Sarah had 13 children, a number of them moved to Boone and Carroll counties, Missouri. In 1834, Henry and Sarah also moved to Carroll county, Missouri. He was 67 at the time and Sarah was 62. They bought at least two parcels of land while residing in Carroll county, and still owned one of them when he died there in May 1849. Sarah dies 4 years earlier on 14 May 1845 and they are both buried in Adkins Cemetery."
