Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 4, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :
- Towles, Henry - entered service 1776 in Virginia company; entered service 1781 in another Virginia company & served at Yorktown; died 1/10/1829; married 7/27/1776 Elizabeth Weatherall, widow received pension abt. age 78 Culpeper County, Virginia, 1837 per County Justice of the Peace William A. Roberts & County court clerk Francis T. Lightfoot; widow's sister Mrs. Ann Terrill made affidavit than Madison County, Virginia, she was present at soldier's wedding & soldier then captain per County Justice of the Peace Alexander H. Simms & County Clerk of court Belfield Cave; Littleton Taylor made affidavit there then abt. age 86 he entered service 1781 in Culpeper county, Virginia, & served in Revolutionary War with soldier; David Jamison made affidavit abt. age 84 Culpeper County, Virginia, he entered service there 1775 as ensign, & served with soldier who later a major, per County Justice of the Peace's Samuel Rixley & George W. Jamison; William Yowell made affidavit in 1837 Madison County, Virginia, abt. age 74 he entered service Culpeper County, Virginia, in company commanded by soldier; William Nalle made affidavit 1838 abt. age 74 he entered service there 1781 & knew soldier in Revolutionary War service per County Justice of the Peace William Roberts; Thomas C. Brown, administrator of widow's estate, gave power of attorney 1861 there to agent to apply for pension, per witness James M. Broadus, County Justice fo the Peace Thomas A. Foushee, & County court clark Fayette Mauzy. F-W6298, R2403.

Henry Towles Elisabeth Towles Witnesses Henry Field Jr., George Wetherall, Benjamin Roberts Recorded 15 June 1778 ----- p. 135 (Original pp. 690-692) Indenture 20 April 1778 Between Henry Towles son of Joseph Towles & Elisabeth his wife of Culpeper County And Henry Towles son of Stokely Towles of same place Who paid Seventy five pounds current Lawfull money of Virginia For 190 acres of land in Bromfield Parish Beginning at a white oak in a line of Colo Beaverleys by the German Road Corner to John Piner and John Wilhoit running with Pinors line west to the Beaver Dam Run thence down the several courses of the run to the Mouth of said run thence up Stoney Run to the bent of the said run by the Mountain thence up the hollow of the Mountain South to Clarks line thence with his Line East to a Chesnut Oak in Beaverleys line thence with his line North to the Beginning Henry Towles Elisabeth Towles Witnesses Henry Field, George Wetherall and Benja. Pension Application, Henry Towles W6298, transcribed by Will Graves 18 July 1837, Culpeper County, VA Elizabeth Towles (age 78) stated: That she is the widow of Henry Towles, who served as a soldier of the Revolution, acting as Private, Sergent and Captain In 1775 he went into what was called the “minute service” and was gone for a long time, say six or seven months as a Sergeant Again in 1781, after their marriage, he served three months or more as a Captain Was at York at the time of the siege And was gone another time for two months That she was married to Henry Towles on 27 July 1776 by Parson Harrison That Henry Towles died on the 10th day of January 1829 and she has remained a widow
29 July 1837, Madison County, Virginia Mrs. Ann Terrill, 77, testified that she was at the wedding of Henry Towles and her sister, formerly Elizabeth Weatherall, which took place in July 1776
