Hunt & Co.'s Directory & Topography for the Cities of Gloucester & Bristol, 1849, records Henry Rendell, Chemists & Druggists, 3 College St, Bristol also Henry Rendell, 2 College St, Bristol. Henry was aged about 26 years when he married Caroline Sydney Jacobson (nee Lott) by Licence on 22nd August 1843 at the parish church of Withycombe Rawleigh (Exmouth), Devonshire by Rev. Edward Rendell, vicar of Bampton, Devonshire. On the marriage entry he was recorded as a Bachelor, of full age, whose profession was a Chemist, residing at Dartmouth, his father was Thomas Rendell , Solicitor. They had three children in England; the eldest, Frances Caroline, was born in 1845 at 2 College Street, Bristol and baptised at St. George's Brandon Hill, Bristol by Rev. Edward Rendell. The second child, Henry was born in 1847 at Bristol and the third child, Harriet Margaretta, was born in also at Bristol. The family immigrated to Melbourne, Victoria in 1851. It is possible that Henry may have sailed to Australia as a Ship's Surgeon. He died suddenly in the discharge of his duties in March 1852. A memorial tablet inside St. Stephens Church, Richmond (Melbourne), Victoria states: SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF HENRY RENDELL OF THIS PARISH, SURGEON, WHO WAS REMOVED SUDDENLY BY DEATH MARCH 4TH 1852. AGED 35 YEARS. "Be ye also ready". Caroline and her young family returned to England a few months after his death and a fourth child, Thomas Matthew was born in October 1852.
