    A sketch of him exists in the Historical Papers by Dr. J.A. Waddell in Washington and Lee University, formerly Washington University.

    After the War of 1812 of which he was Captain of the Artillery, Henry McClung served as a trustee for Washington University from 1812 to 1830. He married Elizabeth Alexander on November 16, 1802.

    After living some years on a farm in Rockbridge County, Virginia, he moved several times, once to Lexington and second to Staunton, VA where he operated a hotel. He and his wife would have seven children.
