After the death of his father and mother, and while older brother Keith was in medical school in Little Rock, Henry kept the family farm going.

On page 69 of the Sallie deWitt 1981 Genealogy it says his birthdate was 7 February 1858. On page 71 it says it is 7 March 1858. The headstone for Henry R. Hudson at the King's Cemetery in Grand Prarie, Franklin County, Arkansas only gives the year of birth as 1858. It does not give the month and day.
