Henry (Butler); bapt. (Ashford) 7 Sept. 1626; grad. H. C. 1651; taught school Dorchester until 1656 when he returned to England and became dissenting preacher at Dorchester, Co. Dorset and Yeovil. Co. Somerset. His last service, after many persecutions and imprisonments, was at Witham Friary, Somerset, where he d. and was bur. 28 Apr. 1696. He m. Anne, dau. of Thomas and Avis (Abbott) Bishop of Bridgeport, Dorset 9 Mch. 1655 at Dorchester, Mass. She was bapt. 22 Oct. 1616 and had m. (1) John Holman of Dorchester. She was a widow with five children when she m. Henry Butler and eight years his senior. She d. prior to Aug. 1673 and he m. (2) Mary _____. His last words were these: "A broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise." (Calamy, Ejected Ministers, 11, 611, Comp. Mass. Arch.
